Parents
When I was little, I hated sleeping over at friends houses.  I would always agree to it, but I was never quite able to seal the deal.  Come 9:00 pm, I was always crying to go back to my own house.  It wasn’t until 4th grade that I was finally able to make it the entire night at a friends house. The reason I never lasted was because I didn’t like being away from my parents for so...

Today, I am grateful
Actually, for the last week I’ve been feeling pretty grateful. Right now I’m watching some friends of mine go through a hard time in their relationship.  It hard to watch and sad to think about the aftermath and it’s tough to know if theirs is a relationship that’s meant to be fought for, or if it’s a relationship in which enough has been enough.  It certainly...

Confession Thursday
I don’t, nor do I ever intend to, separate my colors and my whites. It’s a miracle I even check the labels on my clothing and know when to stick stuff in the delicate cycle. Laundry is a pain in the ass.  It shouldn’t be made more complicated by requiring you to separate the different shades of clothing.  So I don’t.  And I won’t. Fact.

I'm making brinner tonight.
Do I want pancakes or waffles?  I feel like pancake cleanup might be easier, but I had a vivid dream last night about delicious waffles. How to choose?

Procrastination
For the last couple hours, I’ve been staring at the computer screen, trying to WILL a case study into existence rather than actually write it. For the last couple hours, instead of actually writing this case study, I have found half a dozen things to distract myself with on the internet. But now, now that I actually started to get things rolling on the case study (I wrote a paragraph and...

I've been up since 6:30 and I can't stop eating
Well that’s not entirely true.  But when I’m not eating, I’m thinking about what I want to eat next and how long I should wait until I eat that thing. This does not bode well for my day.

Spanakopita
twocoasttable: A few days ago, I came across a blog whose title quickly caught my eye - Closet Cooking - because my kitchen is little more than an afterthought; an alcove in the living room that just happens to have a stove in it.  Kevin’s exploration into Greek food sounded better and better with each recipe I read, and when I finally reached his Spanakopita post, I knew I needed to make it.  I...

I'm pretty sure I have a massive cavity
Is there, like, an at-home remedy for that?  Because I am not in the mood to go to the dentist.  I really hate the dentist.

Dear Adrian Peterson,
I love you.  I do.  I’m ready and willing to bear your children and gaze at you adoringly for the rest of my life. But if you don’t stop fumbling the damn football, I’m going to glue your hands to your head so that it permanently looks like you’re saying, “oh shit!”, because you basically are anyway. HOLD ONTO THE BALL!  It’s just not that complicated!! ...

Hope for Haiti
Sitting here, pregnant, watching the Hope for Haiti telethon, I can’t help but feel a little guilty about the baby I’m growing. I see those little faces from the Haitian orphanages and I’m reminded of how many of them — and so many other children — need safe and loving homes.  Who am I to have one more child when there are so many in the world already who are in need...

Screening
No one I know calls me before 9:00 am (even though I’m usually up around 7:00 am).  So to the anonymous number that just called me, nice try.  You’re not fooling me.  I’m not answering.

alexbrooke35: For all of you out there impatiently awaiting the day your beloved boyfriend pops “the question” so you can begin planning the event of the lifetime that all girls dream about, please promise me this: You will elope.  Take the cash offered by your dad, and run.  I promise you, this is good advice. Decided to build a fire as I sit here working
We don’t have a real screen for our fireplace, just a decorative one. Thus, I have already burned three holes in our carpeting from the dry, popping wood. I should probably stop having fires while I’m at home alone during the day.  There’s no one else to blame when shit gets burned.

kelsium: I sort of feel for Jenny McCarthy. I still think she’s a flaming idiot, but I have sympathy for her. If you are trying to care for an autistic child and you truly believe that certain things are working for you, then someone comes out and says that you are wrong, wrong, all wrong, it’s probably hard to sit there and try to think objectively about it and say, “Okay, well, now what?” I...

My home currently smells delicious.
I’ve been making spaghetti sauce all afternoon. Okay…I use the term “making” loosely, because I’m actually just jazzing up a jar of some basic jarred spaghetti sauce from Aldi.  But I’ve added in all sorts of yummy spices and a little cream and I’ll be adding some meatballs in about an hour and it just smells divine as it sits there simmering on the...

The Startling Truth About Working From Home
I’ve been surprised to find that as I spend my days shuffling around my house with only Jack The Dog for company, I’ve gotten kind of lonely for the husband.  I sort of expected to be starved for conversation…but I’m not really.  I used to spend a large part of my days in the office avoiding conversation with most of my co-workers.  It’s not the conversation I miss. ...

Pretty sure I just squealed when Glee won.
Seriously, I’m a teenage girl.  I’d be more embarrassed, but luckily I’m alone in my living room.  Thank god.  I don’t need anyone to witness my spaz-out right now.

I’m not a dog lover per se.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my dog, our pretty little (possibly retarded) golden retriever.  I like the mutt my parents have had for the last 14 years (although I was resistant to her at first because I had a bizarre deep-seeded fear of dogs), and I like their yellow lab as well. But I don’t have a universal love of dogs.  I adore one of my...

Secret to a Happy Marriage
Never work on home repair projects together. Currently, The husband and his step-dad (quite possibly the handiest person on earth — he’s like Al from Home Improvement) are working on installing a garbage disposal and a new kitchen faucet. They’ve been at it for the last 3 hours If The Husband and I were trying to do this together, it’s likely someone’s head would...

Things I Don't Understand
We have fans in both of our bathrooms.  The switch for the fan is right there, next to the light switch, and it seems to me it would be automatic to turn it on. Yet the people who actually use that fan, outside of me and The Husband, are few and far between. Why? If there is a fan in the bathroom, something to muffle the noise as you do your business (especially if you’re taking a dump,...
